With muscles, 'use it or lose it' rings true.

We all have heard about the benefits of good nutrition and exercise.  And we also have heard how the muscles tend to lose their ability as we grow older.  But new research seems to enhance, one more time, the important role exercise plays in the aging process.

The studies mentioned in an article from The Globe and Mail, published on Sunday, February 19, confirm the "use it or lose it" maxim and encourage Canadians to choose a mix of exercises that provide both cardiovascular benefits as well as bone and muscle health.

One key take-away from the article is simple, as expressed by one of the researchers: "We control 70 per cent of how we age.  The other 30 per cent is genetic, and we can blame our mothers for that. But 70 per cent is in our hands."
